Blog #1 - Howdy!
I’m not really sure what the endgame is with this blog, which is the first one I’ve written, but I’ve been told it will help promote my writing projects and further establish my “brand,” whatever the hell that means. So that being the case, I’m stepping off into parts unknown with only a vague idea of the destination, armed with little more than faith that the undertaking will prove to be worth the time.
I’m not a novice when it comes to creative writing - I’ve been doing it off and on since I was at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas - but I am new to publishing my work and sharing it with the public. I released “Stasis” just two years ago. It’s a sci-fi tale set in the not too distant future that explores the truism, “We’re stronger than we know.” I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of time travel, and though that’s not an element of the story in the true sense of the term, traveling through time most certainly is.
It took me almost two years to write and publish “Stasis,” and I’m very proud of my first venture into the world of novel writing. The fact that science fiction is the genre is attributed to the simple fact that it was the first of the many stories jockeying for position in my head that I was able to come up with an ending for. To find out more about “Stassis,” check it out on the Books page of the website, and please feel free to download a copy or order a printed copy from Amazon.com.
My second novel, “Enduring Pride,” was released just a few weeks ago. It’s one of those stories I’ve been chewing on for years. In fact, I realized just the other day that the original file was created on my computer back in 2003. It’s been an on-again-off-again project ever since, but finally finishing “Stassis” provided the motivation, and it’s been my focus for the last two years.
A murder mystery with a military element to it, “Enduring Pride” was inspired by my time in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M back in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and by the Commanding Officer my “fish” year, Ray Foy. Writing it allowed me the opportunity to relive those times that shaped the person I am today, and to fondly remember the experiences for what they were, both good and not-so-good.
To find out more about “Enduring Pride,” go to the Books section of the site. At the moment, it’s only available in digital form for download to your e-reader, but I’m working diligently to release the printed version. I’m hoping it will be out in time for Christmas, so add a few copies to your shopping cart as stocking stuffers for your family and friends. I would be most appreciative!
So, that does it for my first blog, which comes to you from my new and improved website. Thanks so much for your time and your interest. Happy reading!
